Mid Century Danish 1950s Poul Cadovius Shelving System in Teak Model Royal

$8,450.00

The Poul Cadovius Royal System is a defining example of Danish mid century modern design, celebrated for its seamless blend of form, function, and enduring appeal. Designed in 1948 by Danish architect Poul Cadovius, it is an icon of Danish Modernism and one of the earliest and most influential modular wall mounted furniture systems.

This configuration highlights the Royal System’s versatility, combining open shelving with integrated storage. It features nine adjustable shelves for books and display, ranging from 20cm to 30cm in depth, plus one deeper 40cm shelf suitable as a compact work surface or for larger items. It also includes a sought after large drop front cabinet with Cadovius’ signature woven veneer front, and a large four drawer chest with distinctive sculpted pulls.

The wall rails measure 198cm in height, with the option to hang the cabinets slightly lower, extending the overall height to approximately 210cm if required. Crafted from old growth teak, the system has a rich grain and warm patina developed over decades, with only minor signs of age. It has been meticulously hand restored to preserve its original character and authentic 70 year old patina, while highlighting the craftsmanship and natural beauty of the aged timber.

Perfectly suited to contemporary living, the Royal System can be easily reconfigured as needs change. Highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts, it remains an enduring design icon and continues to influence contemporary modular furniture.
