An icon of 1970s Italian design, the Sciangai folding coat stand was designed in 1973 by Jonathan De Pas, Donato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi for renowned Italian manufacturer Zanotta. Inspired by the traditional game of pick-up sticks, its timber poles effortlessly unfold into a distinctive sculptural form with a wide, stable base. Beautifully simple yet highly functional, Sciangai received the prestigious Compasso d’Oro Award in 1979 and remains an instantly recognisable design classic.
